working at heights
Under the Work at Height Regulations, employers must avoid the need for working at height where it’s reasonably practicable to do so.

To comply with this, employers must properly plan all work activities before work begins and always consider how work at height could be avoided.

Control methods to avoid work at height include:

  • Using extension equipment to paint and clean structures.
  • Use light fittings that can be mechanically lowered to ground level for bulb replacement.
  • Carrying out any assembly of equipment at ground level and erecting it using safe mechanical lifting equipment, rather than assembling at height.
